|This short ferry run provides a look along the north shore of Vashon and then down Colvos Passage.
In August and September, large numbers of Bonaparte's Gulls and Common Terns float by with an occasional Parasitic Jaegers in pursuit. Red-necked Phalarope utilize Colvos Passage during their fall migration.
A Sabine's Gull was seen on one trip in the fall and a winter trip found a Merlin crossing the water. The King-Kitsap County border lies down the middle of Colvos Passage, with Southworth being in Kitsap County. Birders enjoy working both county lists on this ferry.
To take the ferry to Southworth, one embarks at Fauntleroy and goes straight across or leaves Vashon from the same north end ferry dock as the Fauntleroy run. The ride lasts about 10 minutes from Vashon.
